Johann Sebastian Bach Essay Paper Example For Students
Johann Sebastian Bach Essay Paper James Dorney December 18, 1999Music History 1 Mr. KimballJohann Sebastian BachA Great Contributor Of MusicThroughout the historical backdrop of music, numerous extraordinary authors, scholars, and instrumentalists have left permanent checks and impacts that individuals today think back on to respect and yearn for. No special case to this figure of speech is Johann Sebastian Bach, whose sway on music was extraordinary without a doubt. Individuals today think back to his compositions and attempts to both learn and respect. He genuinely can be viewed as a music history incredible. Bach, who originated from a group of more than 53 performers, was downright a virtuosic instrumentalist just as a stunning writer. Conceived in Eisenach, Germany, on March 21, 1685, he was the child of a magnificent musician, Johann Ambrosius Bach, who showed his child the essential abilities for string playing. Alongside this string playing, Bach started to play the organ which is the instrument he would later on be noted for ever. His guidance on the organ originated from the player at Eisenachs most significant church. He educated the little fellow rather thoroughly until his abilities outperformed anyoneââ¬â¢s desires for somebody of such a youthful age. Bach endured early injury when his folks passed on in 1695. He went to go live with his more seasoned sibling, Johann Christoph, who additionally was an expert organist at Ohrdruf. He proceeded with his more youthful siblings training on that instrument, just as acquainting him with the harpsichord. The thorough preparing on t hese instruments joined with Bachââ¬â¢s mind blowing aptitude paid off for him at an early age. Following quite a while of concentrating with his more seasoned sibling, he got a grant to concentrate in Luneberg, Germany, which is situated on the northern tip of the nation. Therefore, he left his brotherââ¬â¢s tutelage and went to proceed to concentrate there. The high school years carried Bach to a few pieces of Germany where he principally functioned as an organist in chapels, since that was the ability he had culminated the best from his young preparing. Be that as it may, an ace of a few instruments while still in his adolescents, Johann Sebastian first discovered work at 18 years old as a musician in a court ensemble in Weimar. In spite of the fact that he didn't stay there frightfully long, he had the option to earn substantial sums of money playing for the ruler. He not long after acknowledged a situation as a congregation organist in Arnstadt. It was here that Bach would before long understand his elevated expectations and respects that he had for music. In Arnstadt just as in numerous different spots that Bach worked he was famous for getting into battles about the nature of music that was being created. An ideal case of this can be seen in Arnstadt. Past records of history guarantee that Bach was annoyed with the presentation of the congregation ensemble for which he played for. He asserted that ââ¬Å"the voices would never make the music take off to the sky as it shouldâ⬠(approximately deciphered). Here Bach understood the elevated level of music and hairsplitting that he needed. In 1707, at 22 years old, Bach proceeded onward from Arnstadt to another organist work, this time at the St. Blasius Church in Muhlhausen. By and by he didn't stay there excessively long, barely a year, when he moved again to Weimar where he acknowledged the situation of head concertmaster and organist in the Ducal Chapel. It was here that Bach settled himself and started to make the main assortment out of his best early works which, included organ pieces and cantatas. At this point Bach had been hitched for quite a long while. He really got hitched to his cousin Maria Barbara. They, generally, had a glad marriage. He was glad. By this phase of his life he had ââ¬Å"composedâ⬠for himself a superb notoriety of being a splendid melodic ability. Alongside that his capability on the organ was unmatched in Europe at this point. Truth be told, he visited routinely as an independent virtuoso, and his developing dominance of compositional structures, similar to the fugue and the ordinance, were at that point drawing in enthusiasm from the melodic foundation, which, in his day, was the Lutheran church. The congregation started to take a gander at Bachââ¬â¢s compositions and saw the chance to potentially utilize his music in their masses. In this way was the moderate birth of the German chorale, which Bach later got eminent for. Bachââ¬â¢s virtuosic vocation suffered minor misfortunes en route. He once in a while would be ignored for merited sit uations inside the court that he worked. Be that as it may, in 1715 when he didn't get a genuinely wanted situation of ââ¬Å"Kapellmeisterâ⬠(choral ace) of Weimer, he was offended and left the city. He acknowledged a situation as a court conductor in Cothen, where he started to take a shot at another piece of his melodic kind, that of instrumental music. Up until this point, Bach was principally composing organ pieces and church cantatas. One of his generally popular, ââ¬Å"Wachet auf ruft uns kick the bucket Stimme,â⬠turned out to be notable around the globe is still viewed as a great today. In any case, when he showed up in Cothen he started to concentrate on every single other instrument and utilized his abilities as a string player and information on ââ¬Å"wind brassâ⬠instruments to start forming instrumental pieces. It was during his stay here in Cothen that the symphonic perfect work of art known as the ââ¬Å"Brandenburg Concertoâ⬠was conceived. .ucc8da655e00b65ff39b33ce9f946a389 , .ucc8da655e00b65ff39b33ce9f946a389 .postImageUrl , .ucc8da655e00b65ff39b33ce9f946a389 .focused content zone { min-stature: 80px; position: relative; } .ucc8da655e00b65ff39b33ce9f946a389 , .ucc8da655e00b65ff39b33ce9f946a389:hover , .ucc8da655e00b65ff39b33ce9f946a389:visited , .ucc8da655e00b65ff39b33ce9f946a389:active { border:0!important; } .ucc8da655e00b65ff39b33ce9f946a389 .clearfix:after { content: ; show: table; clear: both; } .ucc8da655e00b65ff39b33ce9f946a389 { show: square; change: foundation shading 250ms; webkit-progress: foundation shading 250ms; width: 100%; obscurity: 1; progress: murkiness 250ms; webkit-progress: mistiness 250ms; foundation shading: #95A5A6; } .ucc8da655e00b65ff39b33ce9f946a389:active , .ucc8da655e00b65ff39b33ce9f946a389:hover { darkness: 1; progress: haziness 250ms; webkit-progress: obscurity 250ms; foundation shading: #2C3E50; } .ucc8da655e00b65ff39b33ce9f946a389 .focused content zone { width: 100%; position: relativ e; } .ucc8da655e00b65ff39b33ce9f946a389 .ctaText { outskirt base: 0 strong #fff; shading: #2980B9; text dimension: 16px; textual style weight: intense; edge: 0; cushioning: 0; text-enrichment: underline; } .ucc8da655e00b65ff39b33ce9f946a389 .postTitle { shading: #FFFFFF; text dimension: 16px; textual style weight: 600; edge: 0; cushioning: 0; width: 100%; } .ucc8da655e00b65ff39b33ce9f946a389 .ctaButton { foundation shading: #7F8C8D!important; shading: #2980B9; fringe: none; outskirt span: 3px; box-shadow: none; text dimension: 14px; text style weight: striking; line-tallness: 26px; moz-fringe sweep: 3px; text-adjust: focus; text-design: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-stature: 80px; foundation: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/modules/intelly-related-posts/resources/pictures/basic arrow.png)no-rehash; position: total; right: 0; top: 0; } .ucc8da655e00b65ff39b33ce9f946a389:hover .ctaButton { foundation shading: #34495E!important; } .ucc8da655e00b65ff39b33ce9f946a389 .focused content { show: table; tallness: 80px; cushioning left: 18px; top: 0; } .ucc8da655e00b65ff39b33ce9f946a389-content { show: table-cell; edge: 0; cushioning: 0; cushioning right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-adjust: center; width: 100%; } .ucc8da655e00b65ff39b33ce9f946a389:after { content: ; show: square; clear: both; } READ: Dress code EssayBachââ¬â¢s residency in Cothen kept going roughly seven years. Aristotle composed on this conversation of the Ideal State in books VII and VIII of The Politics. What Aristotle saw around him were the common city-conditions of old Greece. It is regularly accepted that he didn't have a dream of the huge country state and particularly not such extraordinary alliances as the United States and Russia. What Aristotle alluded to when he talked about state, is a constrained estimated city-express that is shaped by the gathering of a few towns. His optimal state is absolutely not a law based one that empowers all who live there to be a resident.) The principle city of the state ought to be situated so it is effectively open from both ocean and land. Aristotle additionally felt that dividers and other such cautious insurances should watch the town itself. The safeguards of the town should consistently look for extra methods for guard by the guide of logical request. He accepted that the best possible situating of the city among ocean and land will offer approach to three particular preferences: first it will be similarly all around set for the tasks toward all path; additionally it will shape and entrepot for the receipt of approaching groceries; and it will approach timber and other crude materials the land might have the option to create. Aristotles Ideal State ought to be arranged in such a spot along these lines, that it would be difficult for an adversary to draw in and simple for an expeditionary power to withdraw from. The city ought to be created on a slant. This will take into consideration great wellbeing when joined with being confronted east, with the breezes blowing from the bearing of the dawn. The town ought to be composed in a quincunx (a similar example used to plant vines), and ensure that the entire city isn't spread out in geometric interims. This will take into account both wellbeing and great appearance of the city. Plato, in his Republic, communicated an extraordinary objection to seaports, naval forces, outside exchange, and remote travel in his compositions on the political perfect. Aristotle then again felt that seaports are a fundamental piece of the Ideal State. We lead more out of who we are than out of what we do. Therefore, we should deal with our inner being in order to expand Godââ¬â¢s kingdom through our outer deeds. 1) Emotions Traditionally, the negative emotions were considered as weakness. In Chinese culture, an important person should not show his emotions publicly. Usually the Confucianism tells us to look inside our hearts to get rid of the negative emotions. However, the emotions are part of our lives. We cannot delete them or hide them. In one way or another, it will come out of the box. A Closer Study At Mammy - 1851 Words
A closer study at Mammy, the quintessential Southern African-American nanny, as the core icon of African-American womanhood, during the Civil War, particularly in films, who has figured prominently on memory, reveals that her depiction and characteristics skewed the collective and individual memory of the role of real African-American women, such as Harriet Tubman. This powerful figure in Southern households created stereotyped images of African American women slaves, i.e. Gone with the Wind (1939), allowing audiences to believe this to be an accurate depiction of African American women rather than recognizing the major contributions they made in the Civil War. The stereotype overshadowed the real efforts and work of African American women, both enslaved and freed; and left a false image which affected women then and now. Particularly, in Civil War era films, African American women were predominantly shown as having a robust figure, a constant smile, and a happy disposition, i.e. mammies. ââ¬Å"By the time the flood of Civil War features began in 1908, these racist cliches were set in stoneâ⬠(Chadwick 80). Why Art free essay sample
The wind is blowing outside of my dorm room right now. From my vantage point I can look into my roommateââ¬â¢s mirror and see a tree branch gracefully swaying by the force of natureââ¬â¢s breath. The sun is streaming through the open blinds, basking my roommateââ¬â¢s bed in heat while mine is shrouded in the shadows of our small dorm room. On the wall behind her bed the sun reflects off of a mirror and throws itself to the wall turning the white cinder blocks a jaundiced shade of yellow. I live in a dorm room, in a boarding school in Indiana, and my room is my studio. Photography is my passion. When I look through the viewfinder of my camera the imaginary worlds I create in my mind come to life. Most children stop creating imaginary worlds when they are still small, I was not one of those children. We will write a custom essay sample on Why Art? or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page My imagination has followed me throughout middle school and high school. It now has such a strong hold on me that I need an outlet, such as photography, to set my imagination free. When I do not photograph, my mind circles around me and Iââ¬â¢m literally silenced by the magnitude of thoughts running through my head. Photography gives me the ability to show the world the inner workings of my mind. Images constantly fill my thoughts until one by one I am able to photograph them and set their souls free. Art is not only a creative outlet for me its also my form of self-expression, being quiet by nature I rely on art to speak for me. My photographs are all small pieces of myself. Through each piece of art I create I strive to show the world a part of my soul. My vulnerability cloaks my photographs like a dark shadow. Without a part of myself in my photos, my photos are pointless and in turn so is my art. To look at my photographs is comparable to looking into the murky color of my i rises and staring directly into my mind. The reason I create art is to try and allow the outside world a window to understand me, in hopes that someday I will be able to fully understand myself. The sun is setting outside my window. The once yellowed walls are now taking on an orange tint as the sun draws closer to the earthââ¬â¢s horizon. Small particles of dust float through the room, streams of light hit them while they gracefully swim through the thick air. Without art my eye wouldnââ¬â¢t catch these details of life. Art gives meaning to life by allowing everyone to stop what he or she is doing and notice the beauty of the ordinary things surrounding him or her.

Beach Pollution Essay Analysis Essay Example
Beach Pollution Essay Analysis Paper These are a few of the thoughts going wrought my mind while descending on my first open-water dive in Monterey, California. I hear the eerie silence, interrupted only by the sound of water surging past me. As the salty water trickles through my regulator and into my mouth, I feel the cold rush toward my bare face, the only exposed part of my body. I look through my goggles and see absolutely stunning animals and organisms that most people will only see in books and pictures. See coral and kelp, fish and sea stars, just swaying with the ocean their home. Listener Relevance Link: It is their home that I, and many of you, use for creation. To swim, play, surf, scuba dive, boat, and other activities. It is also their home that the world is poisoning with pollutants and toxins every minute of every day. Ill. Speaker Credibility: As I observed the beauty of the ocean, I looked past the creatures and beneath the sandy sea floor. I was surprised to find some pieces of plastic and a few bott le caps, accompanied with more garbage. Although did notice these foreign objects, there was nothing could do at the moment. So I continued on my journey in the deep, a little disturbed at the sight had just witnessed. This experience made me want to counter this action and enhance the quality of the ocean. IV. Thesis: Today, I am going to talk to you about how water toxins, pollutants, and human impact affect the ocean. (Transition: A significant problem with water toxins and pollutants are the negative effect it has on the ocean water and the marine life. ) BODY l. Need A. Some of the most common toxins and pollutants are in a destructive group called organogenesis and include toothache, Pubs, EDT, dioxins, and more. . According to the Columbia Encyclopedia, Pubs are Polycarbonate phenyl, which are mixtures of organic chemicals that are non-flammable, chemically stable, and have high insulating qualities, which make them ideal to use for paints, plastics, and rubber products. 2. Despite the beneficial qualities they hold, such as being an inexpensive material for everyday items, they are considered to be substances that build up in the food chain and accumulate to levels that are harmful to environmental health (www. Step into the ocean and you will encounter everything from Pubs and dioxins to plastic bags, cigarette butts and bacteria from human waste. Canoe Lake and Steven Garret, authors of A guide to the surfing life, tell us that in polluted seas, ear and skin infections are common, and diseases including Hepatitis A have been known to be contracted. If this is how much contamination affects humans, just imagine the effect pollution has on smaller organisms. C. Oil is one of the most widespread pollutants in the marine environment. Most oil spillage is caused by oil leakage in refineries, cargo ship and tanker accidents, and problems with blown out pipelines and drilling rigs. 1. A local and severe oil spill took place on November 7, 2007. A cargo vessel pilled 58,000 gallons of heavy bunker fuel into the San Francisco Bay when it hit a tower of the Bay Bridge. A. Oiled sea birds are one of the most emotive images that come with the term oil spills. For every oiled seabird that lives long enough to be washed, many more have died at sea. The oil clogs their feathers, which provide insulation and buoyancy in the water. As stated by the US Davis environmental toxicology newsletter, The Cisco Buses spill led to the death Of 1 ,803 birds on arrival, 634 birds in a cleaning environment, one harbor seal, one northern fur seal pup, three marbled murderers, two brown pelicans, ND one western snowy plover. B. These numbers show what a vast impact only one oil spill has on an environment. In the past, detergents and steam cleaning were used to clean up oil spills, but the damage made by those treatments were worse than just leaving the shore alone. D. Chemicals and foreign liquids are not the only factors causing harm in the ocean. Many tangible objects, especially plastic, glass, and other trash, contaminate the deep blue sea. 1. The main problem with plastics is that they will virtually never go away. Most consumers throw them away, but they do not go away, they just go elsewhere. Out of sight, out of mind. Animals suffer injury, and in many cases death, from their encounters with plastic. Animals can be harmed through entanglement, laceration, suffocation, and ingestion. Depending which body of water and the buoyancy of it, plastics thrown into the water can either float, sink, Or stay in the Water column, leaving nowhere for animals to hide. The animals often mistake plastic pieces for food and ingest them. Discarded plastic packaging, fishing nets, and ropes usually take several years to break up. Meanwhile marine animals become entangled and trapped. Each ear, enormous numbers of plastics, ropes, fishnets, glass and metal are dumped in the sea. Some broken down by wave action, but most are non- biodegradable and stay in the water for years on years. 2. Anything glass will theoretically be in the water for eternity. Glass is non- biodegradable and chemically stable in seawater. It can remain unchanged for an unrestricted period of time. A motorbike dumped in the water will take 50 years just to rust away. The engine will take at least 200 years to dissolve completely (Hutchinson). The oil and petrol residues will harm animals for a very long amount of time. . Some people may not care about these effects because they do not have anything to do with humans, but think about how the food chain works. Small organisms will feed on this rust and oil residue. The larger fish will feed off those small organisms. All the while, we, humans, are catching these fish and eating them. At the rate that people are catching and eating fish. Who knows how many fish have been distributed that had harmful residue on their surfaces. 3. Other debris that is more ocean-based comes from boats, specifically merchant ships. Plastic is used for a plethora Of Uses on a merchant ship. This includes plastic strapping bands, sheeting, and shrink-wrap, which all interfere with marine wildlife. Recreational fishing holds home to one of the deadliest forms of debris imaginable infotainment line. This is the strong, clear, common fishing line used with common fishing poles. Fishermen often cut this when it becomes snarled or snagged on an object. It is not unusual to find a single segment of line with several dead birds entangled in it. 4. The amount of junk in the sea has a lot to do with the amount of junk on the beach. Urban means city, city means people, and people mean trash. Add an adjacent ocean to the equation, and trash means marine debris. About 70% of the Lignite States population lives within fifty miles of a coast (Including the great lakes); it should be of no surprise that a big portion of marine debris comes from land. Candy wrappers, cigarette butts, plastic straw and drink lids, Styrofoam cups, and plastic bags all find their way to coastal waters by storm drain (Come). Anything that can fit through the grate of a storm drain or anything of the like is usually untreated and end up in the oceans in which we swim. Everyone has seen it; Six-pack rings, average cans and bottles, cigarette butts, plastic bags, fireworks, and suntan lotion bottles are common things to find on the sandy beaches. Everyone has seen it, yet few people actually do something to get rid of the outlandish waste. All of the trash we see on the beach find their way into the waves, and soon enough to the bottom of the ocean. (Transition: Now that we know the affect this marine litter and pollution has on ocean life, how can we help fix it? ) . Satisfaction A. Even though human impact and pollutants have caused damage, it does not mean it is too late to help and improve quality of the ocean. Many conservation and restoration efforts have been made already, and there are many efforts people can make to keep the ocean clean.

Free Essays on Overcoat By Gogol
A Revolution through Literature Nikolai Vasilievich Gogolââ¬â¢s The Overcoat is a humanitarian and mystical short story about the dreary life of a low class man. Akaky Akakievich is a forlorn copying clerk in a stuffy government office. He is wholly devoted to his routine and monotonous copying, so much so that the continuous mocking and ridicule in the office do not keep him away from his work. Akaky orders a new overcoat after saving and making other privations. He lavishes attention on it, selects the color and the fabric out of love and longing, and waits desperately for its completion, only to have it stolen off his back the first day he wears it. This literal level of the story is full of images and symbols which have a latent meaning that Gogol is trying to communicate. In The Overcoat he contrasts meekness and humility of the normal man with rudeness of the so called ââ¬Ëimportant personageââ¬â¢. He gives a satirical narration of the Russian bureaucracy, and criticizes and protests against the cat egorization of each person by rank and the behaviors set for each rank. Akaky himself is really an excuse for the writer to describe in some detail the bureaucracy itself, which means that the background and setting are not implied but may be as important to the significance of the story as Akaky is himself. He is the little man crushed by the economic and political injustice. The focus of this story, apart from Akaky, is his new overcoat. The overcoats in this story signify rank. The rich have marten and silks on their coats to show their rank while the poor make do with other materials. Akakyââ¬â¢s old coat is referred to as the dressing gown by the other clerks who make fun of him. He is looked down upon, ignored and mistreated. But when he gets his new coat the same staff congratulates him and accepts him. They act as if he has been promoted and the new overcoat signifies this rise in stature. Examination skills- preparation and technique Assignment
Examination skills- preparation and technique - Assignment Example Firstly, it cannot be under-emphasized the one of the most effective techniques is to prioritize the study material. For instance, far too many people engage in the process of revising and devote equal amounts of time to each facet of the information that they might be tested upon. This is a flawed strategy due to the fact that certain parts of the information will come cleary and as second nature to the student; by means of comparison, other aspects of the information may be much harder to understand and require a more thorough approach. Similarly, the setting of revision is oftentimes overlooked. For instance, studies have proven that 1 hour of quality and uninterrupted study time is more effective than many hours of continual interrupted study time and/or distractions (Hing Sun, 2005). As such, a particularly useful technique that I have employed in the past is to set aside a give portion of time as a means of studying. In much the same way that other aspects of the day are planned out, revising can be accomplished within a similar technique. A further technique that should be employed is to resist the pitfall of seeking to memorize everything. Even if one has an exceptionally good memory, this particular approach is pointless as it creates little understanding and does not further the educational achievement of the student beyond merely regurgitating information back onto the page. Finally, and perhaps most obviously, the temptation of cramming for exams must be resisted at all costs. Although many students swear by their ability to procrastinate until the very last minute and then stay up for days at a time as a means of rapidly understanding and memorizing key information, studies and research into these techniques have definitively proven that this approach is fundamentally flawed and ultimately leads to a lower overall score as compared to those students that were able to set aside a given amount

Stylistic arangements of experience Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
Stylistic arangements of experience - Essay Example As the plot progresses the reader experiences a sort of tension and a feeling of horror because of the peculiar narrative style of the writer. Unlike the science fiction works of his contemporaries, Lovecraft narrates the experiences of his characters with a staunch sense of realism, both physical and psychological. The reader is made to feel the freezing coldness of the Antarctic region in his/her veins. In the same way, the famous painting ââ¬ËIsle of the Deadââ¬â¢ by Swiss artist Arnold Bocklin has evoked similar responses in the viewer that Mark Robson drew the inspiration for his film from this artistic work. Style is a distinctive manner or technique by which something is done, created, or performed. The style and technique by which Lovecraft, Arnold Bocklin, and Mark Robson produced their respective novella, painting, and film exemplify their unique manner and craftsmanship which paved new ways for creativity. The novel is considered as the most ubiquitous of all forms o f literature. Robert Silverberg states, ââ¬Å"The novella is one of the richest and most rewarding of literary forms...it allows for more extended development of theme and character than does the short story, without making the elaborate structural demands of the full-length book. Thus it provides an intense, detailed exploration of its subject, providing to some degree both the concentrated focus of the short story and the broad scope of the novel.â⬠(Robert Silverberg 2000). ââ¬Å"At the Mountains of Madnessâ⬠is a novella of terror based on geological expedition to unearth an unprecedented amount of scientific material; especially in the pre-Cambrian strata. The exploration is aimed at unraveling the primal life history in the realms of ice covered Antarctic continent. The expedition from Miskatonic University through the barren, wind-swept interior of the Antarctic plateau remains lifeless. On the contrary, they encounter strange fossils of unheard creatures, carved stones, and

Product Review for Nike Fuel Band Essay Example for Free
Product Review for Nike Fuel Band Essay Im a number junkie, I love knowing exactly how many calories Im taking in, my macronutrient ratios and Id always wanted to know how many calories I burn on a daily basis. To feed my number addiction I typically weigh my food and prepare an entire days food in one sitting. With that said, being able to track my energy expenditure was very appealing to me. I came across an energy tracking product called Nike Fuel Band. Being able to get a rough idea of how many calories I burn throughout the day was exactly what a fitness nerd like me wanted to know. After using this product for three weeks, I am blown away by the total package of services this product offers. The Nike Fuel band is a wrist band that looks similar to a Live Strong bracelet that keeps track of all your daily activity. It has a built in screen that is comprised of a number of LEDs that can tell you how much Nike Fuel youve earned, how many calories youve burned, how many steps youve taken and the current time. The device also syncs with your phone, computer and Nike Plus account to keep track of your day to day activity. The packaging was very appealing; everything was nicely arranged so things didnt get deshuffled during shipping. I had almost no problems getting my Fuel band synced up to my computer or my iPhone. My band fit perfectly without having to add the supplied extra link and was able to start burning fuel right away. Once I got it going there is a single button on the device that if clicked will scroll through four different options; fuel, calories, steps and time. The time is also really convenient if you would rather where the band than a watch. The product itself is slightly larger than your standard silicone wrist band that people still seem to be wearing. Nike fuel is Nikes proprietary measurement of energy expenditure which is supposed to be a universal measurement. For me personally Ive noticed that three Nike Fuel points equates to about one calorie. After using my Nike Fuel Band for about three weeks I found I pay attention to both the fuel as well as the calories. It is definitely useful for comparing activity with friends, as if you have different height and weight your caloric expenditure will be way off. There are two things about the Fuel Band that I wish were a little different. While the device is able to be worn in the shower, it is not recommended to take the product swimming. I go swimming a lot so it was a bit of an inconvenience for me not to have this on to rate my performance. I would have also liked to see the Fuel Band have the ability to monitor heart rate. The Band fits very snug to my wrist, so I would think that tracking my pulse wouldnt have added too many extra dollars in electronics. By tracking heart rate Nike would have had another variable to more accurately track activity levels. This would have improved their ability to measure fuel in activities that are more static like Yoga or Weight Lifting. After using my Nike Fuel band for three weeks, I absolutely love it. While it may not be flawless in terms of calculating caloric expenditure, it does a better job than anything else out there when you compare the convenience factor of having a small bracelet attached to your wrist. This product has definitely changed my life, if Im a few hundred fuel points away from my daily goals, I go walk around the block to make sure I hit the goals Ive set forth for myself. In contrast, if Ive had a busy day and burned enough fuel through chores, I dont have to waste my time going to the gym. The Fuelband takes the guessing game out of the equation and I love it.

Negotiating at the table
There are many models that describe a three step method discussion, proposals, conclusion despite which school of thought one prescribes to, the process of preparation, discussion, proposal bargaining, and conclusion apply. Part I Background and Settings The situation described in the following is very much like the last one, where we discussed the purchase of a vehicle. However, in this example the professional car salesman lost customers sue to his lack of following a process to ensure that there was a win-win meet in the end. My wife and I were going to purchase our flirt new vehicle together. We had purchased a used car In the past however the customer/dealer relationship was completely different than the one we encountered. Part II How was it Negotiated Being a first time car buyer carries with it tremendous pressure since you are going tee-a- tee with a person who sells vehicles and negotiates for a living. Being a young couple, we had done some homework on the car we wanted to purchase color, make, and model. We did some shopping around visiting several local dealers to see the price range for the vehicle we wished to purchase (this was before you could Google everything). Therefore, we had prepared ourselves to enter negotiations with the dealer that we felt comfortable in dealing with. On our negotiation team were myself, my wife, and my father (l said we were young). On the team for the dealership was Tony a veteran car salesman and a fairly new salesman, AY, who one could tell was starting a second career. We arrived at the dealership with our research done and our interests and options that we desired for our new car. We also, came with some determination and the attitude that we were going to leave with what we anted and In the range that we desired. After arriving at the dealership, we quickly found the Explorer with the options positions. AY entered the picture and we did the obligatory test drive. Upon returning, the negotiation process began. The first phase introduced by Sahara (2011) is the discussion during this phase, the exchange of ideas, information, offers and counter-offers should be communicated between the two parties. He also goes onto say that the pieces of the discussion that construct a positive and constructive discussion can be undone by negative or imaging behaviors or comments. This second part is the attitude that was brought on by Tony. To begin with, he pushed AY off to the side and began trying to sell the car to my father. His response was, you are selling to the wrong guy, as he pointed to my wife and l. As he continued to sell us his line he continually asked my wife if this or that was her hot button. This was due to the fact that when he began to discuss the price of the car vice the value of our trade-in, my wife became visually We found AY, told him that we would have much rather have dealt with him, but with Tony on the scene the hard work that he had done was quickly undone.PROPOSALS The bargai ning phase proposal involves narrowing the gap between the two initial positions and persuading the other person that your case is so strong that they must accept less than they had planned. (Toolbox, n. D. ) In our situation we never had the opportunity to enter the proposal phase with our salesman. However, about twenty minutes after our departure, our salesman AY called us and asked us to explain the events that drove us away once again so that he could convey them to his director of ales and hoped that he would see the error of the situation and try to bring us back.As AY had hoped the director called us and apologized for the way in which Tony had conducted himself and asked if we were willing to come back and give them another try. This is the point in which we entered our first proposal we come back but the point that we enter at before any rebates and our trade-in was the price they said was their sale price. With some hesitation, he accepted our first proposal and we return ed to the dealership. The mistake of poor attitudes and misspoken words cost he dealership one of their big trading cards.CLOSING THE DEAL This phase formally seals and binds the parties into the outcomes of the agreement. (Karri, 2013) After returning to the dealership, we were met by AY and the general manager. The proposal of the price that we discussed on the phone was represented and we continued form that point. There were some finer details that were worked through form this point however as Sahara (2011) this is permissible when working through the finer details. They offered us an agreeable amount for our trade and with a people of extra to sweeten the deal we were able to come to a final price. The entire process when we returned took less than 30 minutes, though in that time we were able to make final proposals and come to a conclusion on price to seal the deal. CONCLUSION Negotiating through the phases that were introduced can be done in a short period of time or can be l ong and drawn our. Both sides may go back and forth between the phases. (Sahara, 2011) However, with open communication, the avoidance of angering or belittling your opponent and understanding a conclusion an be reached that is amicable to both parties.

College Is The Most Expensive Experience - 1503 Words
College is one of the most expensive experiences most people go through at some point in their lives. Going to college often results in a unspeaking amount of debt from students loans as a result of students being unable to financially pay the school off with their own income. So understandably there is a considerable amount of pressure one encounters when they have to choose a major. They have to choose a major that is going to guarantee them a financial future where they will not only have to rely on their parents for support but they can also pay off their loans after years of taking thousands of dollars to pay off their school. And typically in order to progress throughout college, especially in a field that ends with a career that pays quite well, one has to maintain a certain grade point average in order to properly progress through college. Now considering all of that previous information, if a student finds themselves in a class that is required by their major but is struggli ng to keep up with the curriculum, would it be to anyoneââ¬â¢s surprise if the student cheated to get a decent grade in the class? That is what our study explored, the attitudes students have when it came to cheating and plagiarism.
